Being Creative!

Hello all! As I am now officially on my Summer holidays and England, once again, hasn't provided me with great beach weather, I have been on the lookout for other ways to keep myself occupied! Being a textiles student and a budding fashionista, I have decided to put my skills to good use and I would like to show you the items I have produced so far!

Firstly I made this super cute, super simple make up bag! It is honestly so easy to make. Simply draw out 2 large trapezium shapes (front and back) onto your pieces of fabric. Then draw out 2 of the same large trapeziums on some iron on stabiliser (this gives the make up bag structure and is particularly useful if the fabric you are using is very thin!) Cut out the fabric shapes and the stabiliser shapes and iron the wrong side of the fabric to the stabiliser. Before I sewed the pieces together, I added a strip of yellow ribbon across the top but you could try adding an embroidered/appliqued motif or sequins etc. After adding your desired embellishments, place the right sides of the bag together and straight stitch around the edges, leaving the top open. Then turn your bag the right way out and add a fastening! I used a vintage gold button and a loop to add to the old-fashioned look of the fabrics but you could use poppers, hook and eye etc. This little make up bag only took me about an hour so it is the perfect mini project!

While I was ill last week, I decided to decorate this box and I honestly am extremely happy with how it turned out! After reading Company magazine (which is an extremely cool fashion magazine which I can recommend to anybody) I decided that I loved their photos and captions so much that I wanted to do something with them! Conveniently, I still had a plain brown cardboard box after receiving a birthday present in it last month. The cutting out of the pictures did take a significant amount of time but, since I wasn't feeling well and the weather was, well, British, I was quite happy to do it. The box features fashion icons such as Cara Delevingne and it also plays host to several upbeat and inspirational captions. I really do love the eye-catching look of this box and, although it took me about 3-4 hours to make, I would happily make another one!

I hope this post has inspired you to get creative and I would love to see some of the lovely things you end up producing! Have fun!
